Lalbagh Fort

Titled as Dhaka’s premier tourist location, the Lalbagh fort is an incomplete 17th century Mughal palace fortress in the southwestern part of the country’s capital, Dhaka. The entrance of the fort is under a half dome, which is decorated with ornamental plaster-cut work. This magnificent fort, which is surrounded by lush lawns and cultivated gardens along with a breath taking collection of statues, gives an enchanting glimpse into the history of Bangladesh. Prince Muhammad Azam started the construction of this fort while he was serving as the Viceroy of Bengal. This fort was left incomplete due to the death of Bibi Pari, who was betrothed to Prince Azam, after which it was considered inauspicious to continue the project. Meticulous excavation of this Fort has left experts to believe that even though Dhaka was founded by Mughals in 1608, this region was inhabited centuries before.
